Low Profile Toilet Reviews

Here are the best low profile tank toilets reviews.

As the comparison table shows, Kohler offers the most variety in terms of low profile design. Kohler has dominated the short height toilet market for decades with these elegant, expensive, and feature-rich toilets. That’s how the slang term lowboy toilets came to be synonymous with Kohler lowboy toilets.

Other top toilet brands like Toto and American Standard also have low profile toilets but they are taller and larger than those offered by Kohler.

However, in recent years, new cheaper low profile models from small toilet brands like WoodBridge and Swiss Madison have become best sellers in low profile category on online stores like Amazon.

Best Low Profile Toilet – KOHLER San Souci

low profile toilet After checking out all the short toilets, I found KOHLER K-5172-0 San Souci Comfort Height Compact Elongated 1.28 GPF Toilet (link to its Amazon.com page #ad) is the best low profile toilet. It is a good high-end toilet with a clean and beautiful one piece design that just screams elegance and luxury.

The San Sauci K-5172-0 comes with a elongated toilet seat, so its provides more space and is more comfortable to use. It flushes well according to online reviews and uses only 1.28 Gallons Per Flush (GPF). So it is a high water efficiency toilet that saves water. When I checked customer reviews, I found many say it flushes faster, quieter and more efficiently than many regular 1.6 GPF toilets that use more water. It can also be installed in state like California that require high efficiency toilets.

Kohler San Sauci has a space saving design. This elongated bowl model is only 27.75 inches long, 16.38 inches wide and has a overall height of just 25.31 inches. If you want to save even more space it’s also available comes as a round bowl model which is two inches shorter in length. Unless you have space issues, always try to get a toilet with an elongated toilet bowl. It’s more comfortable to sit on and also easier to use and clean.

Overall, this a very good and beautiful high end toilet. It’s available in 9 different colors too. As your toilet is the most used products in your home, it’ll be nice to have something as elegant as this to sit and feel the luxury.

Most Popular Low Profile Toilet – WOODBRIDGE T-0018/B-0735 Toilet

low height toilet The most popular and best selling low profile model is the WOODBRIDGE T-0018/B-0735 Dual Flush Elongated One Piece toilet. Check its Amazon.com page here #ad. Its got the most number of Amazon reviews out of all the low height toilets listed here.

With a height of just 22 inches, this WoodBridge toilet is the second shortest height low profile toilet in the market and the most sold low profile  (Lowest height toilet is the 21.5″ high Kohler San Racheal but its much more expensive than this).

According to online reviews I checked, most buyers say WOODBRIDGE T-0018 is comfortable, easy to clean and offers good value for money. The WoodBridge T-0018 toilet has been in the market since 2019 and the above hundred customer reviews on online ecommerce site is testimony to its popularity.

However some customers claim its a little difficult to install. When I checked more I found that to make it look nicer, they haven’t kept any holes on the sides of the toilet for tightening its floor bolts. As a result, its bolts are accessible only from the back of the toilet using a ratchet. So you need a little patience to align it correctly and tighten the bolt when installating. Once install customers seem to love it.

Overall the WoodBridge T-0018 is a attractive and well made toilet. It is also sold by WoodBridge, who is a reputed bath & kitchen company located in Cerritos, CA. There are several other WoodBridge models that are top sellers in other toilet categories like short depth toilets and top one piece toilets.

2nd Most Popular – Swiss Madison Well Made Forever SM-1T803

short tank toilet The next best selling low profile is the Swiss Madison Well Made Forever SM-1T803 Chateau One Piece Toilet (Check at Amazon #Ad). This toilet sells a lot due to its reasonable price tag. It’s a good looking toilet and the flush does a good job.

However I read some complaints about the seat that comes with the toilet being flimsy compared to the rest of the unit. So if you are buying this toilet, I’d factor in about $40 more dollars to get your own seat in addition to the price of the toilet. (Fortunately, the seat size is 18″ inches long at its longest point, which is within the standard for elongated toilet seats. So you can replace the seat with any normal elongated seat)

Winzo WZ5024T Toilet

The 26-inch-high Winzo WZ5024T Modern One-Piece Toilet is a new low profile model from a new toilet brand called WinZo. I couldn’t find any online reviews or ratings for this low profile Winzo WZ5024T toilet because it was release only in July 2020. We’ll have to wait and see how it does in the long run. Like other new toilet brands, its price is of course reasonable.

In 2020, Winzo also released few other models including a 22.75 inch depth toilet which is currently the shortest depth toilet for sale in the US. They also have another 23″ depth toilet which is another shortest depth toilet. Both of these are selling like hot cakes and are getting some good reviews and ratings online.

Lowest Height Toilet with Low Profile Tank

shortest toilet The lowest toilet I came across is also a Kohler. It’s the 21 1/2-inch hight KOHLER K-3597-0 San Raphael Comfort Height Pressure Lite 1.0 GPF Elongated Toilet (Amazon link #Ad). This toilet is so low, it looks like a low profile toilet RV toilet. Its uses a Pressure Lite flushing technology to compress water into its small toilet tank using your pipe water pressure. The pressurized 1.0 Gallon of water is then released when you flush it. So at the moment this is the shortest height toilet you can get. Any shorter and you’ll have to go for a tankless toilet.

Note:Low profile tank toilets from top three toilet manufacturers like Kohler, Toto and American Standard are expensive. So many people opt for mid-price range low tank profile toilets from other brands like WoodBridge and Swiss Madison.

Low Profile Toilet for Small Bathroom

short height toilet The short profile toilet with the shortest toilet depth in this list, is the 24″ high KOHLER San Souci Low Profile Compact Toilet with a round front (Check at Amazon #Ad). While its height is 24.2 inches, its depth is also very short at just 25.6 inches. That makes it between 2 to 5 inches shorter than the other low height toilet models.

This San Souci round is only 24 inches from ground to the top of the tank and 31 inches high with seat open. So for a small bathroom or if you want to save space, you might like to chose this round seat model as it takes up less space, especially with the seat up.

Low Profile Toilets with Low Height Toilet Bowl And Seat

Most of the low profile toilets listed above are low profile comfort height toilets. So they have a tall ‘comfort height’ bowl and seat level of around 17 inches that is more comfortable for tall and elderly people and most adult Americans.

However if you want a ‘standard height toilet’ with a lower 14 or 15 inch bowl and 15 and 16 inch seat height level for a shorter person or for kids use also then its better to go for a low profile toilet with a standard height bowl and seat. There are only two standard height seat, low profile toilet models listed above. They are the KOHLER K-3722-0 San Raphael Toilet and the KOHLER San Souci K-4007-0 Toilet (Round Bowl).

* KOHLER K-3722-0 San Raphael Toilet has a bowl height of 15 inches. With the seat thickness its seat height is around 16″+ from the floor to the top of the seat.

* KOHLER San Souci K-4007-0 Toilet has got a standard bowl height of 15.25 inches. With the seat thickness, the seat height is round 16.5 inches.

The Kohler San Souci round toilet is the more popular and less expensive of these two low-profile seat toilet models.

Kohler Low Profile Toilets

As we saw above there are quite a few Kohler short profile toilet models. These models have clearly been the preferred choice for elegant, stylish large and small bathroom for decades now. I discussed a little about each Kohler toilets model above, so I won’t go into them here.

Just want to mention here, overall, when I checked Kohler and other low tank profile toilets I have to agree with many who say Kohler toilets are the best low profile toilets in the American market today. Kohler toilets are specially rated high for their comfort, quality and ease of cleaning. Though they are high end and high priced toilets, many customers also say Kohler toilets offer good value for money.

American Standard Low Profile Toilets

I came across two low profile American Standard toilet models. They are bit taller than other models listed here. However they have a reasonable price for a well known brand.

The most popular and best selling American Standard low profile toilet is the American Standard 2961A104SC.020 Colony Right Height Elongated One-Piece Toilet (Amazon link #ad).

The second American Standard model is the Fairfield 2862056.020 1.6 GPF One-Piece Elongated Toilet (Check at Amazon #Ad).

These American Standard models are rated high for sheerness, easy of installation, sturdiness, and ease of cleaning.

TOTO Low Profile Toilets

TOTO is the top toilet brand in America.  They great toilets with elegant design and good flushing performance.  However sadly there aren’t many Toto low height toilets available in the U.S.

Currently flagship Toto low-profile model is the the 25.5 inch tall Toto MS644114CEFG#01 Carolina-2 One-Piece High-Efficiency Toilet (Amazon page #Ad). It’s a very good toilet but has a higher price tag too.

The Toto Carolina 2 toilet is also a Toto Unifit Toilet. Toto Unifit toilets come ready to install on a 12 inch rough-in. However they can also be installed on 10-inch or 14-inch toilet rough-in holes using a special adapter called the Toto Unifit adapter. (I’ve discussed more on this matter in the 10″ and 14″ rough-in section below.)

Toto had another low profile model called the TOTO MS864114#01 Supreme Elongated One Piece Toilet. Unfortunately last I checked it was unavailable.

10 & 14 Inch Rough-in Low Profile Toilets

What about low profile toilets for 10 and 14 inch rough-ins?

The only low height toilets I came across that fits a 10 or 14 inch rough-in is the Toto Carolina II High-Efficiency Toilet (Amazon link #Ad) using a Toto Unifit roughin adapter. However to install the Carolina II toilet on a 10 or 14 inch roughin you need to order a 10″ or 14″ Toto Unfit rough-in adapter. Here is the Amazon.com link to 10″ Unifit Adapter #Ad and the 14″ Unifit Adapter at Amazon #Ad.

toilet offset flange However if you really need, you can install any toilet listed here on a 10-inch roughin by using a 2-inch offset toilet flange (check 2″ offset flanges at Amazon #Ad). A offset flange is used to offset or increase/decrease a toilet’s roughin size. A 2″ offset will make your rougin into a 12″ roughin, thereby enable you to install any 12 roughin toilet. (Note: some areas and building codes don’t allow the use of offset flanges.)

For 14 inch rough in, you can install any low profile model discussed here. However as these are 12 inch roughin toilets, you will get a two-inch gap at the back of the toilet, between the tank and the wall. If you don’t like to have a gap, you can reduce the 14″ roughin into a 12″ inch roughin by using a 2-inch offset toilet flange.

Low Profile Toilet Vs Low Height Toilets

Low profile toilets are also called low height toilets. However, sometimes calling them as low height toilets can be confusing because ‘toilets with low height seats’ are also sometimes referred as low height toilets. So when talking about low height toilets, keep in mind that it can also mean toilets with low height bowls which are easy to use for children and short people. (For a list of best toilets with low seat height see my post here)

Often both of these sub-types (low seat and low tank toilets) within low height toilets have there own unique uses, characteristics and considerations to think about buying one of them. In the context of this article ‘low height toilets’ means a toilet with a low height tank and therefore a overall short height toilet.

Most of the low profile mdoels have a taller Comfort Height seat which is easy for tall adults, elderly and people with knee problems. However, if you need a low profile toilet with lower seat height too, checkout the KOHLER K-3722-0 San Raphael Toilet (check on Amazon.com #Ad). It has a shorter standard height seat of around 15 inches. (Other toilets listed here have a comfort height seating of 17+ inches.)

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, I think KOHLER K-5172-0 San Souci Comfort Height Compact Elongated 1.28 GPF Toilet is the best low profile toilet.(link to its Amazon.com page #Ad) However if you are looking for a reasonable price one then the Swiss Madison Well Made Forever SM-1T803 Chateau One Piece Toilet is a good choice. If you want a low profile small toilet for a small bathroom or powder room, then the KOHLER K-4007-0 San Souci Toilet (Round-front bowl) is the one for you.

Overall, short profile toilets are often perceived as a statement of luxury and elegance. However they are also sometimes a necessity, in cases like when you need a toilet to fit under a bathroom shelf or spaces with height constraints where a normal. For either reason, its nice to have so many choices like this, so we can pick and choose and buy a good low profile toilet AKA low height toilet according to our needs and requirements.
