This list includes all the small compact toilet models I found for sale that have the shortest depth. It is not curated and has recommendable as well as not so recommendable toilet models. So, out of these 17 shortest toilets, I selected the six best toilet models based on my research and past experience with most of these models and created the below table.

6 Best Shortest Small Toilets

This list shows photos and key features of the 6 best shortest toilets out of the above 17 smallest toilets. These 5 toilets were selected based on their size as well as quality, performance, brand and customer feedback on online stores like Amazon.

As we see in these lists, the shortest toilets made by the top 3 American toilet brands like Toto, Kohler and American Standard are at least 26-27 inches long. So, 23-25 inch depth toilets are tough to find in local stores and expensive.

Fortunately, the compact toilet brands listed here still make and sell 23″-25″ toilets in online stores like Amazon. After all, in a small bathroom or space constrained situation even a small part of a inch saved can mean a lot. So, if you get one these 23-25 inch shortest toilets it will help you save the most space and create more legroom.

Out of these six best short toilets, space saving wise the 23″ Carus toilet (Amazon link) is the best small toilet. It is a full one-inch shorter than the other shortest toilets. Even its width and height is shorter. And it is sold by ‘Luxury Modern Home’, who have a very good reputation as the the sellers of Galba toilet (which has sold thousands on Amazon.)

However if space saving is not critical for you and you can install a 25 inch toilet I’d recommend you go for either the 25″ Horow toilet or Galba toilet. Both of them are similar size and look alike. However the Horow toilet is cheaper but has less reviews and ratings online than Galba. However the reviews its got is good and I’ve known few people who bought it and been satisfied with their purchase.

Galba on the other hand, has been around for many years now (Since 2013) and has sold thousands of toilets. The hundred plus customer reviews and 4/5 star ratings on its Amazon sales page is enough to recommend its quality and reliability. The catch might be its higher price than Horow or Swiss Madison Sublime II.

Moving onto Swiss Madison Sublime II, its a good 24 inch depth toilet. It looks like the Carus toilet but is also much cheaper priced. This Sublime II short toilet has been on sale for couple of years now and has got a reasonable number of reviews on its Amazon and Home Depot website pages to judge its quality. The toilet is recommendable for its design, performance. However there are complains that the toilet is troublesome to install because its got a special bottom installation design. So it takes more time to install and better to have an experienced and patience plumber at hand.

Before we move on to more detailed toilet reviews note, the normal standard toilet depth is 28-30 inches or higher. So, in the toilet industry today, any toilet less than 28 inches deep is considered as a small or compact toilet. All of the short toilets we discuss here are atleast 2 to 4 inches shorter in depth than normal standard toilets you find in most stores.

23 Inch Shortest Depth Small Toilet

A 23″ deep toilet is the smallest normal floor-mounted toilet you can buy in the market today. As seen in the list above, there’s only one 23 inch toilet for sale in the market currently. It is the 23-inch deep Carus toilet.

23″ Carus Toilet

smallest toiletHere are the features and pros and cons I see in Carus toilet.

The Carus toilet is a newly released toilet. It’s been available for sale on Amazon only since November 29, 2018. However its quality and details look good and its been sold by “Luxury Modern Home”, the same company that sells the hugely popular 25″ Galba Small toilet.

For your information, a few years back, Galba toilet was the smallest toilet for sale on Amazon.com and they sold thousands of toilets. But Galba was not only the smallest but also proved to be a very reliable and high quality toilet. The over 100 four and five star ratings for Galba on its sales page on Amazon proves its quality and worthiness.

Now the same company that sells Galba has introduced even shorter toilets in the shape of 23″ Carus toilet and 24″ Julius toilet. So I think Carus toilet will also prove to be a very reliable and worthy product. The early sales and good feedback I see for these two toilet models backup its quality and reliability.

I like the design and smooth outer appearance of the Carus toilet too. The one piece toilet with smooth walls gives it a high-end look and makes it easier to clean. Like Galba and most other toilets for sale in the US market today its made in China. The sellers “Luxury Modern Home” company import and ship it to you from Los Angeles.

* Shortest Toilet Depth From Wall After Installing
Another thing I like about Carus toilet is it doesn’t leave a big gap between the wall and toilet back. If your rough-in is exactly at 12-inches it only leaves a tiny space of 1/8 inch the back which is negligible. So, after installing on a standard 12 inch rough-in Carus would take only 23 1/8″ inches which is great news.

With some shortest depth toilets, when installed on a exact 12-inch toilet rough-in, you get a large space between the wall and the toilet. The gap sometimes might be like 1″. This increases the floor space taken by the toilet from its front to the wall and defeats the purpose of getting a shortest toilet. Fortunately, with Carus, the space taken from wall to the toilet front even after installation is almost only the length of the toilet.

The main con I see in Carus toilet is its higher price tag. Like Galba its cost is high. Its much more expensive compared to other small toilets like Horow and Swiss Medisson Sublime II. My next concern is, because its new, there is very few customer reviews and feedback for us to rely upon.

Also a concern is the Carus toilet seat length and bowl size. It’s seat length is which will make it difficult to install a normal bidet. The toilet bowl opening size is also smaller than in other compact toilet models listed here.

However the customer reviews and feedback I’ve seen for Carus toilet so far is very positive and encouraging. I think unless other brands introduce more 23″ toilets, the Carus toilet might well repeat the success of its older and more popular elder brother Galba toilet 🙂

24 Inch Depth Small Toilets

Apart from the sole 23″ Carus toilet above, shortest depth toilets you can buy in the US market today are 24 inch long.  I found three toilet models for sale in this depth range.  Lets have a look at these 24 inch toilets or 2 feet toilets.

Here is the comparison table with their main features and details. (I also included the 23″ Carus toilet so you can compare these 24 inch models against it.)

24 inch toilet
  • 24" Swiss Madison Sublime II Toilet
  • Price: $
  • Water Consumption: 0.8/1.28 GPF
  • Color: White
  • Shape: Elongated
  • Rough-in: 12-inch
  • Dimension: 24" long x 14" wide x 28" tall

small depth toilet
  • 24" Julius Toilet
  • Price: $$
  • Water Consumption: 0.8/1.6 GPF
  • Color: White
  • Shape: Elongated
  • Rough-in: 12-inch
  • Dimension: 24" long x 14.25" wide x 27" tall

Woodbridge small toilet
  • 24.3" WoodBridge T-0031 Compact Toilet
  • Price: $
  • Water Consumption: 1.0 /1. 6 GPF
  • Color: White
  • Shape: Elongated
  • Rough-in: 12-inch
  • Dimension: 24.3" long x 14.5" wide x 27.8" tall

carus smallest toilet
  • 23" Carus Toilet
  • Price: $$
  • Water Consumption: 0.8/1.6 GPF
  • Color: White
  • Shape: Elongated
  • Rough-in: 12-inch
  • Dimension: 23" long x 13.5" wide x 27.5" tall

It’s noteworthy all of these toilets are dual-flush toilets. So you can save a lot of water by using its half flush for liquid waste and only using the full flush for solid waste disposal.

24″ Swiss Madison Sublime II Toilet

The seller calls this toilet the, Swiss Madison SM-1T257 Sublime II Compact 1-Piece Toilet 24″ Long Dual Flush 0.8/1.28 GPF toilet. (check it on Amazon) It was release into the market in May 2018 and has been selling well on Amazon and Home Depot websites. Its biggest selling point has been its small size and its cheaper price compared to other options like Carus, Galba and others.

The overall size of the toilet is 24″ long, 14″ wide and 28″ tall. In design and appearance is looks very similar to 23″ Carus toilet. It’s sleek glazed surface is easy to clean and looks very nice. Its seat size is a standard 16 1/2 inches long. The toilet bowl is also large like in other large compact toilets like in the Toto and American Standard 26-27 inch depth round front toilet bowls.

However customer reviews have been mixed. The main issue has been difficulties with installing it. It’s installation method is different to the standard American way of installing a toilet on a 12 inch rough in. (I think its toilet bottom is designed in the European way.) Still people who bought it have managed to install it with some difficulty on their standard rough in’s. And once installed, they seem to love and praise it for its tiny size and flushing efficiency.

JULIUS – 24″ SMALL TOILET

small 24 toiletJulius is another shortest toilet sold by the sellers of Carus and Galba toilets. It was released into the market quite recently in 2019. This small toilet dimensions are 24″ long x 14.25″ wide x 27″ tall.

This model has a rounded toilet appearance. So it will match well in bathrooms that have rounded or curvy bathroom sinks and bath fittings.

Here is the diagram with measurements for Julius toilet.
Julius small toilet

25 Inch Depth Small Toilets

25″ GALBA Small Toilet

For the record, Galba was the smallest depth toilet in the market when it was introduced back in 2013 to until around 2017/18. Then the cheaper priced Horow and smaller sized Swiss Medisson toilets were released. But between 2013-17 the available smallest toilet options were very limited and thousands of Galba toilets were sold online by the same company that now brings us this even smaller Carus tiny toilet.

The Galba toilet was the smallest and also a very good quality and reliable toilet. Like I said above in Carus toilet section, the hundred plus four and five star reviews the Galba toilet has got on its page on Amazon is testimony to its good quality and recommendability.

26 Inch Depth Small Toilets

Transolid TBT-1560-01 Madison Round Front 2-piece Toilet

Transolid Madison toilet is a 26.57 inch depth toilet. It’s a very inexpensive toilet with a price well under $200. So its probably the cheapest small toilet in this list.

It is manufactured and sold by Transolid. Till I came across this toilet I didn’t know anything about Transolid. So I checked them and it turns out they are one of the largest OEM supplier of solid surface sinks and bowls in the United States. Transolid makes products under private label for three of the top five solid surface companies in the world.

Transolid have many kitchen sinks for sale online with good customer reviews and ratings. However, I couldn’t find any reviews online for this 26″ toilet  model. There are about 10 Transolid toilet models for sale on Amazon but none of them have any customer reviews either.

But this toilet has some good specs. Its water efficiency is very high using only 1.0 GPF and meeting the EPA WaterSense standard. It also has a shorter toilet bowl rim height of 15-1/6 inch, so that everyone short and tall  can comfortably use it. And Transolid provides 5 year residential warranty and 1 year commercial warrenty for this product. Most toilets don’t provide this long warranty today.

3 Important Small Toilet Buying Guide Tips

There are set of general things you need to look for when buying any toilet. Those include checking toilet model reputation, customer reviews, water consumption rates, seat height, rough in size etc.

In addition to those standard toilet buying tips, I have found several more specific things you need to check for specially when buying a small compact toilet like those listed here.

Check Toilet Depth From Wall After Installation
Check how much gap will be their between the back of the toilet’s tank and the wall, after its installed. After installing your short toilet, the total length of space taken by the toilet will include this gap plus the toilet length. The smaller the gap the better.

Normally with most toilet when installed on standard rough in size like 12 inches, you normally find a gap between 1/8″ to 1″ or even 1 1/2″ inches between the wall and toilet tank. If the gap for example is 1″ and the toilet is 25″ inch, after installing the toilet will take up a space of 26 inches in length from toilet front to the wall.

Check How Easy To Install The Toilet
These small toilets come from a variety of suppliers and brands. So some of these compact toilets have special installation methods or are designed according to European or other toilet installation methods. But thankfully most of them are easy to install and designed according to standard american toilet installation methods.

Check Toilet Seat and Bowl Size and Shape
Some compact toilets have different seat and bowl sizes and shapes. Some of the shortest toilet bowls are very small like in the 23″ Carus toilet. Some others have special seat shape and sizes. If the toilet seat shape and size is custom it’ll be difficult to find a replacement toilet seat. In such cases make sure the toilet brand sells those custom seats for that model to get when you need a new one.

These are the tips I’ve learned to look for when dealing with small toilets for small spaces and small bathrooms. Many people have bought shallow depth toilets without checking the above mentioned factors in the toilet they bought and later regretted and go through trouble. So before you buy a shallow toilet please check for the above mentioned things too.

Final Thoughts on Smallest Toilets for Sale in US

The average bathroom size in the US has doubled since the 1950s. But still there are many bathrooms, specially in older houses that are quite small. There are also powder rooms, half baths and space saving three-quarter bathrooms that need small and space saving toilets like those I listed and compared here.

However finding a small compact toilet that fits within the confines of your bathroom and still leaves a healthy amount of space to move around can be a challenge, size-wise, price-wise and performance-wise. There are so many things to consider. That’s the reason I put in a huge amount of research effort and wrote this list and post with the best details and insight for you about small compact toilets for space saving and small bathrooms in the US.

With most of these small toilets, aside from saving space, you’ll also save water. Most of them have dual flush push buttons to let you choose between a half flush for liquid waste and a full flush for solid waste, so you don’t waste water unnecessarily. Some of them also come with a soft close toilet seat, which makes closing the seat quieter and removes the risk of impact damage by seat dropping accidentally.

I hope you found my extensive list of 17 smallest depth toilets helpful. Out of them, the top six toilet models I selected and presented above are very reliable and recommendable.

Thanks for reading right upto the end. Comments are open for your feedback, suggestions, correction to any mistakes I’ve made here. Your comments and feedback will help me and a many others reading this after you.

3 Comments on “17 Smallest Small Toilets (with Shortest Toilet Depth)”

    1. Hi Katherine,
Due to their popularity stocks of Carus and Julius toilets seem to be over. The same seller sells the Galba toilet also on Amazon and it was also unavailable until a few days ago, but is now available. So if you can wait I expect Julius and Carus models will also be available again as soon as the seller receives new stocks.

But if you are in a hurry, you might like to go for the 24 inch depth Swiss Madison Sublime II Toilet (Amazon link) or the 25 inch depth Horow toilet (Amazon link). Both are much cheaper than Carus or Julius toilet prices. At 24 inches long, the SM Sublime II toilet is the same size as Julius toilet. Also though the Horow is a inch longer at 25, its got better reviews and ratings than either Carus, Julius, or Sublime II.
