As we see in these lists, the shortest toilets made by the top 3 American toilet brands like Kohler, American Standard and TOTO are at least 25.5 or 26 inches long. So, 23 to 25 inch depth toilets are tough to find in local stores and expensive.

Fortunately, the compact toilet brands listed here still make and sell 23″-25″ toilets in online stores like Amazon. After all, in a small bathroom or space constrained situation even a small part of a inch saved can mean a lot. So, if you get one these 23-25 inch short depth toilets it will help you save the most space and create more legroom.

Out of these best smallest toilets, space saving wise the 23″ WinZo WZ5079N Toilet is my top choice small toilet for small bathrooms. It is a full one-inch shorter than the more popular 24 and 25 inch shortest depth toilets. Even its width and height is shorter, making it the toilet with the smallest toilet dimensions. And has been in the market for 3 years now, since 2020. During this time it has sold a lot and has a good reputation.

As you can see on this list many other 22 and 23 inch toilets have come to the market recently. However, if space saving is not critical for you and you can install a 25 inch toilet I’d recommend you go for either the 25″ Horow toilet or Galba toilet.

Both Horow and Galba toilets are similar in size and look alike. However the Horow toilet is cheaper but has less reviews and ratings online than Galba. However the reviews its got is good and I’ve known few people who bought it and been satisfied with their purchase.

Galba on the other hand, has been around for many years now (since 2013) and has sold thousands of toilets. The hundred plus customer reviews and 4/5 star ratings on its Amazon sales page is enough to recommend its quality and reliability. The catch might be its higher price than Horow or Swiss Madison Sublime II.

Moving onto Swiss Madison Sublime Toilet, its a good 24 inch depth toilet. It has been on sale for few years now and has got a large number of reviews on its Amazon and Home Depot website pages. The toilet is recommendable for its small toilet design and performance. However there are complains that the toilet is a little difficult to install. So it takes more time to install. But that’s nothing that can’t be fixed by an experienced plumber.

Before we move on to more detailed toilet reviews note, the standard toilet depth is 28-30 inches or higher. So, in the toilet industry today, any toilet less than 28 inches deep is considered as a compact toilet. All of the short toilets we discuss here are atleast 2 to 4 inches shorter in depth than normal standard toilets you find in most stores.

Compact Toilet Reviews

23 Inch WinZo Toilet

23″ deep toilets are the smallest standard floor-mounted toilet you can buy in the market today (without going for a macerating tankless toilet like Saniflo.) As seen in the list above, there are several 23 inch toilet for sale in the market currently. The 23″ Winzo toilet is the best from among these 23″ toilets. Its also a very narrow toilet with a width of only 14.6″. (The narrowest toilet is the 13.4 inch wide Harow toilet.)

This Winzo toilet model was first released for sale around June, 2020. Its customer reviews and online ratings are so far very good which proves its quality. Its main selling point has been its size.

WinZo WZ5079N toilet is sold by an online seller called, “Winzo Store”. The same seller has been selling several other hugely popular WinZo Small toilet models for several years now. Since they launched around 2019, 2020, WinZo toilets have sold thousands of toilets across their different models.

Before WinZo came, a toilet named 23 inch Carus toilet was the smallest toilet for sale in the US. It was also a good reliable and high quality toilet. However Carus toilet is currently unavailable.

Another selling point of WinZo is its one piece small toilet design that saves space and gives it a smooth outer appearance. As a one piece toilet you get one solid porcelain piece. This one piece short projection toilet design gives it a high-end look and makes it easier to clean.

* Shortest Toilet Depth From Wall After Installing
Another thing I like about WinZo toilet is it doesn’t leave a gap between the wall and toilet back, if your rough-in is exactly at 12-inches. So, after installing on a standard 12 inch rough-in Winzo toilet would take only 23 inches from wall to the front which is great news.

However with some other shortest depth toilets, when installed on a exact 12-inch toilet rough-in, you get a large space between the wall and the toilet. The gap sometimes might be like 1″. This increases the floor space taken by the toilet from its front to the wall and defeats the purpose of getting a shortest toilet. Fortunately, with WinZo, the space taken from wall to the toilet front even after installation is almost only the length of the toilet.

The main drawback I see in WinZo toilet is its not a well known brand. Because of that you have to rely on the online reviews its got from those who bought it. Fortunately its online reviews are good. Its price is also reasonable and comparable to other compact depth toilets like Horow and Swiss Madison Sublime.

Also a concern is the WinZo toilet is seat length and bowl size. It’s seat length will make it difficult to install a normal bidet seat if you want one. Its small toilet bowl size is also smaller than in other compact bathroom toilets listed here.

However the customer reviews and feedback I’ve seen for WinZo toilet so far is very positive and encouraging. I think unless other brands introduce more 23″ toilets, the WinZo toilet might well repeat the success of older and larger toilets like Galba toilet that came before it.

Apart from the 23 inch toilets, the shortest depth toilets you can buy in the US market today are 24 inch long.  I found several  toilet models for sale in this depth range like WoodBridge, Swiss Madison and Galba.  Out of these the 24 inch Swiss Madison is the most popular currently mostly because its the only toilet with a exact 24 inch length and also its reasonable price tag compared to others. Lets have a look at this 24 inch toilets or 2 feet toilet next.

It’s also noteworthy most of the compact toilets for sale today are dual-flush toilets, meaning they have two flush (button) options. So you can press the a low flush option/button for flushing liquid waste and a full flush for solid waste. This way a lot of water can be saved.

24 Inch Swiss Madison Sublime Toilet

small compact toilet The seller calls this toilet the Swiss Madison Well Made Forever SM-1T257 Sublime One Piece Toilet (check at Amazon #ad). It’s a compact one piece toilet, just 24″ long with a dual flush rate of 0.8/1.28 GPF. It was release into the market in May 2018 and has been selling well on Amazon and Home Depot websites. Its biggest selling point has been its exact 24 inch depth toilet size. Swiss Madison is also a cheap small toilet compared to other short depth toilets like WinZo, Galba and others.

The overall size of the toilet is 24″ long, 14″ wide and 28″ tall. In design and appearance is looks very similar to 23″ WinZo toilet. It’s sleek glazed surface is easy to clean and looks very nice. Its seat size is a standard 16 1/2 inches long. The toilet bowl size is also large and similar in size to some over 26″ and 27″ depth Toto compact toilets and American Standard compact round toilets.

However customer reviews have been mixed. The main issue has been difficulties with installing it. It’s installation method is different to the standard American way of installing a toilet on a 12 inch rough in. (I think its toilet bottom is designed in the European way.) Still people who bought it have managed to install it with some difficulty on their standard rough in’s. And once installed, they seem to love and praise it for its tiny size and flushing efficiency.

24.5 Inch GALBA Small Toilet

Galba small toiletFor the record, Galba small toilet (check at Amazon #ad) was the smallest depth toilet in the market when it was introduced back in 2013 to until around 2017/18. Then the cheaper priced Horow and smaller sized Swiss Madison toilets were released. But between 2013-2020 the available smallest toilet options were very limited and thousands of Galba toilets were sold online.

The Galba toilet was the smallest WC and also a high quality and reliable toilet. The hundreds of online reviews the Galba toilet has got on its page on Amazon is testimony to its good quality and recommend-ability.

25.6 Inch KOHLER San Souci Low Profile Toilet

The 25.62 inch depth KOHLER San Souci Low Profile Round-front Bowl Toilet is the most popular low height small toilet. With a height of only 24 inches it is the shortest height toilet in  this list. It’s also the shortest depth, low profile toilet for sale currently in the market. If you are looking for a compact high end toilet with small tank this is ideal.

(However note that, if you are looking for a low profile, short height toilet to fit under a shelf, cabinet or ledge or just for its elegance and style, there are lower height toilets. Check out my low height toilet list post here for them.)

This same low profile Kohler compact toilet is available with a elongated bowl shape which is more comfortable, specially for men. However its length is slightly over 27 inches, yet within the standard compact elongated toilet depth of 28 inches.  Its also very popular and one of the best compact elongated toilets in the market.

Space Saving Corner Toilets

corner toiletNo small toilet list will be complete without mentioning corner toilets. These triangle tank toilets that fit in a bathroom corner are one of the best known space saving toilets. They maximum use of the limited space in a small bath and allow you to install new facilities like a shower or vanity without costly wall renovations.  So corner toilet are great for small bathrooms or powder rooms.

However their is very limited number of corner toilet models available in the market and their size and shape are not directly comparable to the other compact models we discussed here.

When I checked the small corner toilet, I found is small in size is the Renovator’s Supply Troyt Two-Piece Corner Toilet (check at Amazon #ad). This corner toilets dimensions are 18″ long by  35″  wide (front to back). And its 29 inches high.

Compact Toilet Buying Guide

There are set of general things you need to look for when buying any toilet. Those include checking toilet model reputation, customer reviews, water consumption rates, seat height, rough in size etc.

In addition to those standard toilet buying tips, I have found several more specific things you need to check for specially when buying a small compact toilet like those listed here.

Toilet Depth From Wall After Installation
Check how much gap will be their between the back of the toilet’s tank and the wall, after its installed. After installing your short toilet, the total length of space taken by the toilet will include this gap plus the toilet length. The smaller the gap the better.

Normally with most toilet when installed on standard rough in size like 12 inches, you normally find a gap between 1/8″ to 1″ or even 1 1/2″ inches between the wall and toilet tank. If the gap for example is 1″ and the toilet is 25″ inch, after installing the toilet will take up a space of 26 inches in length from toilet front to the wall.

Ease of Small Toilet Installation
These  toilets for small spaces come from a variety of suppliers and brands. So some of these compact toilets have special installation methods or are designed according to European or other toilet installation methods. But thankfully most of them are easy to install and designed according to standard american toilet installation methods.

Compact Toilet Seat Size, Bowl Size and Shape
Some  of these small size commode have different seat and bowl sizes and come in different seat and bowl shapes. Some of the shortest toilet bowls are very small like in the 23″ WinZo toilet. Some others have special seat shape and sizes. If the toilet seat shape and size is custom it’ll be difficult to find a replacement toilet seat. In such cases make sure the toilet brand sells those custom seats for that model to get when you need a new one.

These are the tips I’ve learned to look for when dealing with small toilets for small spaces and small bathrooms. Many people have bought shallow depth toilets without checking the above mentioned factors in the toilet they bought and later regretted and go through trouble. So before you buy a shallow toilet please check for the above mentioned things too.

Final Thoughts on Smallest Toilets

The average bathroom size in the US has doubled since the 1950s. But still there are many bathrooms, specially in older houses that are quite small. There are also powder rooms, half baths and space saving three-quarter bathrooms that need small and space saving toilets like those I listed and compared here.

However finding a small compact toilet that fits within the confines of your bathroom and still leaves a healthy amount of space to move around can be a challenge, size-wise, price-wise and performance-wise. There are so many things to consider. That’s the reason I put in a huge amount of research effort and wrote this list and post with the best details and insight for you about small compact toilets for space saving and small bathrooms in the US.

With most of these tiny toilets, aside from saving space, you’ll also save water. Most of them have dual flush push buttons to let you choose between a half flush for liquid waste and a full flush for solid waste, so you don’t waste water unnecessarily. Some of them also come with a soft close toilet seat, which makes closing the seat quieter and removes the risk of impact damage by seat dropping accidentally.

Time To Choose!

I hope you found this extensive list of smallest depth toilets helpful. Out of them, the best compact toilet models I selected and presented above are very reliable and recommendable.

Thanks for reading right upto the end. I hope you found this list article helpful. Share your thoughts and questions in the comments below.

  1. Would love to purchase Carus or Julius but neither one is available! Do you have any additional information?

    1. Hi Katherine,
Due to their popularity stocks of Carus and Julius toilets seem to be over. The same seller sells the Galba toilet also on Amazon and it was also unavailable until a few days ago, but is now available. So if you can wait I expect Julius and Carus models will also be available again as soon as the seller receives new stocks.

But if you are in a hurry, you might like to go for the 24 inch depth Swiss Madison Sublime II Toilet (Amazon link #ad) or the 25 inch depth Horow toilet (Amazon link #ad). Both are much cheaper than Carus or Julius toilet prices. At 24 inches long, the SM Sublime II toilet is the same size as Julius toilet. Also though the Horow is a inch longer at 25, its got better reviews and ratings than either Carus, Julius, or Sublime II.

  2. I have a 12 inch toilet. What I mean by 12 inches the bowl is 12 inches from the floor. What year are these from? Very hard to get up and sit on.

    1. If the bowl or seat height is only 12 inches from the floor its probably one manufactured for kids. The American Standard 2315.228.020 Baby Devoro kids toilet listed above has a even shorter bowl height than yours. From the rim to the floor its bowl height measures just 10-1/4″ (260mm).

  3. Hi, looking for a 2 piece toilet that is only 24 or 25 inches total in length from the wall to the end of bowl can’t be any longer than 25 1/2 with 12 inch bolts

    1. Sorry, Diane, I’ve not come across any two piece toilets within that range. The smallest 2 piece toilet currently available is the 25.8 inch depth American Standard Colony toilet.

  4. Hi Aksam,
What a phenomenal write-up you have produced!
You have condensed down all the info I have been trying to sort through 🙂
Glad I found your site and will buy through your link. Great job! Thank you.
    Loren
